A meteor shower in Central Russia's Ural regions has injured 250 people and shattered window panes triggering widespread panic.
The residents of Urals were in for a shock when brightly burning rocks were seen falling from the sky on Friday morning. None of the injuries were reported to be serious.
Many suffered cuts from shards, said officials.
Residents in Chelyabinsk, Yekaterinburg, and Tyumen witnessed the event. During the shower, many reported that they experienced a tremor-like shake while window panes of houses were shattered. Kazakhstan also witnessed the meteor shower.
There were also reports of burning objects falling from the sky.
More than 20,000 rescue workers have been deployed in the region along with three aircraft, according to reports.
It is still unclear whether it was really a meteor shower or it was just a single meteorite.
"There was no meteor shower over the Urals, as it was reported earlier - there was only one meteorite. It burned as it was passing through the lower atmosphere," an official told the Interfax news agency which had earlier reported that it was a meteor shower.
