Followed by the announcement of a 7in variant, Samsung officially unveiled two more tablets of Galaxy Tab 3 series, Tab 3 8.0 and Tab 3 10.1. The manufacturer promises that the 8in and 10.1in models, with LTE network speeds, will be available globally in the beginning of June.

Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 vs Galaxy Note 10.1: Display

As the names suggest, the new Galaxy Tab 3 and the Galaxy Note feature 10.1in display. Interestingly, both tablets have similar screen resolutions at 800 x 1280 pixels and pixel density at 149 pixels per inch (ppi). But the key difference in terms of screen technology is, the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 comes with a WXGA (Wide Extended Graphics Array) TFT display whereas the Note 10.1 has a (WXGA) LCD display.

There is no remarkable improvement in terms of display, with the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 and its predecessor, the Tab 2 10.1 share similar screen resolution as well as pixel density. In addition, the 8in variant of Tab 3 has more number of pixels (189ppi) compared to the 10in variant. However, the 10in tablet displays decent colours and good viewing angles.

The Note 10.1, according to a review by IBTimes UK, also has a bright screen, with colours are correctly saturated. It delivers equally better viewing experience, with due credit to the PLS LCD technology employed by Samsung.

The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 and the Note 10.1 are almost identical in terms of footprints. However, the Note is slightly larger, wider as well as thicker featuring a thickness of 8.9mm. Additionally, the Note is approximately 87g heavier than the Tab 3, weighing at 597g.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 was first shipped with Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) software version and was later upgraded to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Currently the device is running on slightly upgraded version of Jelly Bean, Android 4.1.2.

The Tab 3 10.1, unlike the Note 10.1, has been launched with the latest Jelly Bean software, Android 4.2 which marks a major improvement over the previous builds. The update brings several new features including the camera app called Photo Sphere, Gesture Typing (allows users to glide fingers over the letters they want to type on the keyboard while increasing the typing speed), Daydream, enhanced Google Now, Google Search and Android Beam.

The Android 4.2 also adds support for wireless display allowing users to share movies, YouTube videos and other video and images on their TVs.

However, Samsung is expected to roll out the similar software upgrade to the Galaxy Note 10.1 as well, although, currently there is no official word for the same.

The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 is powered by a dual-core processor, with clock speeds up to 1.6GHz. The Tab 3, as confirmed by Intel Corporation, will use Intel Atom Z2560 Clover Trail+ processor. Moreover, the tablet will feature either Intel's XMM 6262 3G model solution or Intel XMM 7160 4G LTE solution.

The dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 Clover Trail+ processor, as claimed, provides double the compute performance and three times graphics capabilities along with competitive battery life when compared to the previous Intel Atom line ups.

The Galaxy Note 10.1, on the contrary, uses Samsung's own Exynos 4412 chip featuring a quad-core Cortex-A9 processor with each core running at clock speeds up to 1.4GHz. The Exynos chip integrates Mali-400MP graphics unit.

Also, the Note 10.1 has 2GB of RAM against the 1GB RAM of Galaxy Tab 3 10.1.

The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 features a three megapixel rear camera as opposed to the five megapixel rear-facing camera of Note 10.1. However, the primary cameras of both the tablets are capable of recording 720p video at 30 frames per second (fps).

The Tab 3 has a 1.3 megapixel secondary camera whereas the Note comes with a front camera of slightly more resolution, at 1.9 megapixel.

The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 and the Note 10.1 offer Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4GH and 5Ghz), Wi-Fi Channel bonding, Wi-Fi direct, Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP. Besides, both devices are capable of supporting LTE network speeds.

Both the 10in tablets of Samsung come in two storage variants: 16GB and 32GB and support micro SD card for additional storage.
