It's official! Bad boys Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are returning for their one last ride, together. Sony Pictures Entertainment dropped the first official trailer for the much-awaited installment of the Bad Boys franchise. It gives a glimpse at the detective duo's latest and final outing.

After 16 long years, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence reprise their roles as Miami Police detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, respectively, for another action-packed comedy. Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, "Bad Boys for Life" is a sequel to Bad Boys of 1995 and Bad Boys II of 2003.

Going by the trailer, even after so many years, there is nothing that has dimmed the dynamics between the two cops. Fans can expect lots of thrill, drama, comedy, and action as the bantering between the detective duo continue to this day.

At the verge of their retirement, Burnett, now a police inspector, and Lowrey, who is dealing with a midlife crisis, come together for "one last time" when a bad guy from their past re-enters their lives. A Romanian mobster is back to seek revenge from the Bad boys for his brother's defeat in the past.

"You want your legacy to be muscle shirts and body counts?" Burnett asks Lowrey at the opening of the trailer.

Soon after, as they learn about the return of their enemy, they are seen fist-bumping, slamming the doors, pointing guns at the baddies. Car chases, incessant gunshots, and unanticipated explosions are certainly going to add to the thrill. And, fans will be delighted to see their favourite detective duo quip and sally each other.

There is absolutely no dearth of glamour and style as Smith and Lawrence are joined by newcomers Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig and Charles Melton, playing a team of junior cops.

Rest assured, nostalgia will trigger when the "Bad Boys" theme song comes up in the background. In the trailer, the young team of cops are seen rapping the lyrics, which is disapproved and censured by the duo.

"No, never, y'all will never do that again," Lowrey yells in the trailer.

While fans are pleased to see the franchise return, there have been questions about the delay in the project. As per the reports, director Michael Bay's exit and budget issues were the main reasons why it took them more than a decade to return. Nevertheless, take a look at the trailer and be assured to go back in time.

"Bad Boys For Life" is slated to release on January 17, 2020.
