The stars were out in droves for the British instalment of this year's awards fiesta, the 2016 EE Baftas. Braving the cold, the likes of Cate Blanchett, Alicia Vikander and Kate Winslet joined the rest of the acting contingent nominated for the film awards.

While the likes of Julie Walters and Julianne Moore arrived sensibly layered up in luxurious capes and coats, there were plenty who sacrificed warmth for the sake of their custom-made gown, and custom was certainly the style of the night.

The palette on the red carpet was very much centred on vibrant scarlet, inky black tones and subtle metallics and Blanchett, Vikander and Brooklyn star Saoirse Ronan all stepped out in bespoke designs for the evening by Alexander McQueen, Louis Vuitton and Burberry respectively and many more following in their couture-created footsteps.

It may seem crazy to some for a design house to have dedicated so much time for one evening but the aforementioned women really were the standout stars on the carpet. Vikander's leather column dress went against the grain of red carpet classics but brought a new form of elegance to the fashion of the night. Similarly, Blanchett looked unforgettably elegant in her feathered and embroidered bespoke McQueen with a rich floral, and very English, design that was truly perfection.

From floral embroidery to naval skimming plunge necklines, take a look at our best dressed list from the festivities on 14 February...
