A 16-year-old boy who was stabbed at a birthday party in the West Midlands has been named as Ben Morutare.

The teenager, from Walsall, was attacked in the early hours during a disturbance at the Old Comrades Club in Smethwick. He was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital but later died.

A post mortem revealed that Ben died of a stab wound to the leg.

Det Insp Gary Plant said: "We have launched a murder investigation following the tragic loss of this young man's life. We believe that this was an isolated incident.

"We are appealing for anyone to come forward who may have witnessed the incident or if they attended the club that night. If you can help then please contact us at your earliest opportunity by calling 101."
