The human need to constantly improve the surrounding environment through architecture, design, taste and sound is actually pushing the boundaries of technological progression rather than the other way around, says Russian oligarch Elena Baturina.

Speaking with IBTimes UK at Milan Design Week 2013, Russia's richest woman - who chairs the multi-faceted thinktank Be Open - says that while the speed of technological innovation is rapid, it is in fact the appetite to consistently reinvent the way we live our lives through cutting edge housing and grand designs, while also thinking about the environment, that is catalysing the development in technology.
