Double amputee Oscar Pistorius is set to compete at the London 2012 Olympics. Dubbed 'Blade Runner' because of the sleek prosthetic fibre limbs he uses, Pistorius had feared his Olympic dream was dashed when he failed to qualify for South Africa in the 400m trials.

But today Tubby Reddy, chief executive of South Africa's Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee, announced Pistorius had been included in the 4x400m relay team, allowing him to also run individually in the race in the Olympic Stadium.

Pistorius was cleared to compete against able-0bodied athletes in 2008 when the Court of Arbitration overturned an IAAF ruling that his blades gave him an unfair advantage. Pistorius will also compete at the Paralympics, running the 100m, 200m, 400m and 4x100m relay.
