The body of a man with his feet in concrete has washed up in New York Reuters

Police in New York said they are trying to identify a homicide victim whose body washed up on a Brooklyn beach with "cement shoes" at his feet. In a scene reminiscent of Mafia movies a student stumbled upon the grim sight while walking by the Lower New York Bay shoreline near the Kingsborough Community College in Manhattan Beach on 2 May.

New York Police Department (NYPD) chief of detectives Robert Boyce said the victim was "obviously" killed.

Boyce said the man's body was wrapped in plastic bags and his hands tied behind his back. The victim's feet were "submerged in poured concrete" in what appeared to be a failed attempt to prevent the body from resurfacing.

Detectives revealed the man had a large tattoo on his back depicting the Virgin Mary holding a rose in the hope the detail will help with the identification process.

A forensics examination is being carried out to determine the time of death and calculate how long the body remained in the water.
