Police in Chicago are looking into a video apparently recorded by a man who was shot in broad daylight on Thursday (31 March 2016). The shocking footage shows a man in a blue baseball hat livestreaming himself on Facebook from outside a convenience store in the west side of the US city.

In the footage, gunfire suddenly breaks out and the man drops the phone, which lands on the ground with the camera lens pointing skywards. As gunfire continues in the background, another man with outstretched arms holding a gun enters the picture, who fires more shots before walking out of the picture.

Police told the Chicago Tribune they were working to authenticate the video, which appears to be consistent with what they know about an incident that occurred in the West Englewood neighbourhood.

The victim, a 31-year-old who has not been named, was taken to a hospital in a critical condition with gunshots to the face and groin.
