A murder investigation has been launched after a man was stabbed to death in Croydon.

Adrian Young, 24, was attacked by a group of males, one of whom was armed with a knife, in Cromwell Road at 4.45pm yesterday afternoon.

Officers and London Ambulance Service were called and found the man nearby in Whitehorse Road, suffering from stab wounds.

He was taken to a south London hospital where he was pronounced dead two hours later.

Formal identification is yet to take place, however, next of kin have been informed and officers are confident the deceased is 24-year-old Adrian Young from Croydon.

A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

The Homicide and Major Crime Command (HMCC) are now leading the investigation into the killing and they are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Inspector John McQuade, of the HMCC, said: "We believe that the stabbing took place following an altercation that had been going on in the area since earlier this afternoon, although we retain an open mind regarding the cause of this dispute.

"I would urge anyone who can help us to piece together events to come forward and contact police as soon as possible."

Detectives can be contacted in the incident room on 020 8721 4005 or, to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
