After eight seasons, HBO's epic fantasy drama series "Game of Thrones"garnered 160 Emmy Awards nominations and 59 total wins. The series holds the record for winning the most number of Emmys for any fictional series.

Meanwhile, "Game of Thrones" finale remains one of the most-watched episodes in the history of television. Despite the backlash, the series continues to be one of the most popular shows of all times.

At the 2019 Primetime Emmy Awards, "Game of Thrones" star Emilia Clarke, who played the role of much-loved Daenerys Targaryen, finally addressed the controversial final installment season 8. It is certain that the audience's mixed reaction definitely did not dull her spark.

Speaking to Variety at the award function, Clarke revealed that people's response was "profoundly flattering." "What it was because when someone cares that much that they're ready to make such a noise about how they believe the characters should've been finished and how the story should've gone. That's just enormously flattering. That just shows how much everybody loved it," she said.

When asked about the possibility of a couple of more seasons, the actress did not shy away from completely denying the idea. "We put our absolute heart and soul, blood, sweat, and tears, muscle, brain energy, everything into this and I feel like everybody's families are like 'thank God, you're done. We can get everyone back," Clarke added.

Fan-favourite Daenerys met a very unfortunate fate. After emerging as a true saviour for many kingdoms in previous seasons, things take an unexpected turn for her in the end. She becomes a Mad Queen and ends up killing thousands of innocent people in King's landing. The only way she could be stopped was by Jon Snow killing her.

Kit Harington, who played the role of Jon Snow, also took time to address the controversy the final season of "Game of Thrones" met with. He revealed that he hasn't watched season 8, yet he is proud of the way it all played out.

"Controversy, I think for us, we knew what we were doing was right story-wise. And we knew it was right for the characters because we lived with them for 10 years. Controversy didn't really affect us," Harington said at the Emmys, as quoted by Deadline.

In 2019, Game of Thrones received 32 nominations for its final season and the show grabbed 12 Emmy Awards including outstanding drama series, outstanding supporting actor in drama series (Peter Dinklage), Outstanding casting, outstanding fantasy costumes and more.
