The downpour of heavy rain has continued across vast swathes of the country, causing further flood risk to those in the south-west of England and some parts of Scotland and adding further travel headaches to many during the festive period.

No trains are running between Bristol Parkway and Swindon due to flooding, as well as Exter St Davids and Taunton, as severe flood warnings remain in place in parts of Devon and Cornwall.

This remarkable footage here released by local police shows a woman being rescued from flood water in Umberleigh, near Barnstaple in Devon, after she clung on to the branches of a tree for 50 minutes.

23 flood warning are also in place for Scotland after heavy rainfall in Aberdeen and Tayside. This footage here shows strong waves lashing Stonehaven harbour in Aberdeenshire, with around 100 properties in the town already evacuated.

UK flooding minister Richard Benyon has said "It's crucial people continue to be vigilant by keeping a close eye on the Environment Agency's flood warnings and allowing the emergency services to do their work."
