How I Met Your Mother has come to an end after nine years on our screens, and it was a goodbye not to everybody's tastes.

Last Forever parts 1 and 2 will prove to be a devisive end to an often divisive and problematic sitcom.

For many the ending went against everything the series was and promised to be. For them it was a horribly misjudged parting of ways.

In the end we discover that for the entire series, lead character Ted (Josh Radnor) has been telling his kids not the story of how he met his mother, but mainly the story of how he could never get over former girlfriend Robin (Cobie Smulders) as well.

He does so because the mother (Cristin Milioti) had died six years prior, so the story was just set-up for him to ask his kids whether he could ask their beloved Aunt Robin out on a date.

One fan - YouTube user Ricardo J Dylan - was less than pleased, so cut together parts of the finale to deliver a much more satisfying conclusion for fans, one much more in line with what the show had promised from the start.

Cutting out the mother's death, the show ends where we all thought it would, with Ted meeting the mother (her name revealed to be Tracy McConnell) and the credits rolling.

In this alternative ending, all is as it should be.
