Taiwan-based HTC is reportedly set to unbox the company's new HTC One M8 Windows Phone 8.1 smartphone at an event on 19 August in Manhattan, New York.

The technical specifications of the HTC device have become the subject of rumour mills of late.

However, according to the latest reports, the HTC One M8 can be expected to arrive with Microsoft's personal digital assistant (PDA) Cortana and support for the HTC Dot View Cases supported by the Android version of the M8.

According to a report in Windows Phone Central, which claims to have received accurate information on the HTC One M8's hardware, users can expect the device with the following tech specs:

  • 5in full-HD Super-AMOLED display
  • Windows Phone 8.1 operating system
  • HTC UltraPixel rear camera.
  • 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • A 5MP front camera
  • Nano SIM-card slot
  • 2,600mAh battery

However, the unique features of HTC's new smartphone will be its Ultra Pixel camera, and support for HTC Dot View Cases.

The Dot View Case support is expected to work like the 'interactive phone cover sync' feature of the Android M8 phones. A grid of small lights on these cases enable them to display notifications and allow users to take calls, without needing to be opened to access the phone itself.
