It is being speculated that the different versions of the HTC One smartphone are being readied for a launch sometime within the next two months. Given the phone's impressive specifications, it could well be one of the best phones to have been announced/launched in the first half of 2012.

One of its contenders, LG, has a smartphone that resembles many of the HTC's key features. The Optimus 4X HD, introduced during the ongoing Mobile World Congress, is a powerhouse.

Check out how these two compare...

Thickness: The LG Optimus 4X HD is 8.9mm thick whereas the HTC One X is 9.3mm thick.

Display: Both smartphones come with 4.7-inch 720 x 1280 pixel screen with 312 ppi density. However, the LG phone has a HD-IPS LCD capacitive touch-screen, compared to the HTC's Super IPS LCD 2 capacitive touch-screen.

Storage: The HTC One X features 32GB of onboard memory and 1GB RAM, while LG's handset features 16GB storage with the same 1GB of RAM.

Common features: Both phones have HSDPA 21 Mbps and HSUPA 5.76 Mbps connectivity features in common. They also have a microUSB (MHL) v2.0 port, an 8 megapixel 3264x2448 pixel camera with 1080p video recording, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, the Android OS v4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), Nvidia Tegra 3 Quad-core 1.5 GHz, an accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, A-GPS support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA and Wi-Fi hotspot.

The big difference is each phone's compatibility with 4G networks. LG's handset will not have 4G LTE support but the HTC One X will.

Unfortunately, there is a slight problem. The Tegra 3 is not as yet compatible with LTE antennas but should be ready by the time the HTC One X is launched. The other major difference is in the batter - the HTC phone has a 1800mAh battery, while the Optimus has a 2140 mAh battery.

Finally, during the 2012 MWC, LG showcased such features such as on-the-fly upscaling of 2D content into 3D when connected to a 3D-capable television. While we have no word on the pricing and availability for Asia, we understand the UK will get the handset sometime in June for about £450.

Meanwhile Vodafone has announced it will be carrying both the One X and the One S in the UK and Amazon UK now lists the One X as being available for pre-order (due to be released, according to the Web site, on 5 April) and priced at £529.99.
