Iceland has one of the lowest violent crime rates in the world. When police in Reykjavik shot a gunman in December 2013, this was the first time armed police had ever killed anyone in the country's history.

This perhaps explains why the official Instagram account of the Icelandic Police Force in Reykjavik has become an online hit. It shows officers pulling funny faces, taking time out to show kids how to cross the road, decorating their motorbikes for Gay Pride, and taking a whole lot of selfies.
