A 23-year-old newly married woman in India has filed a police complaint against her husband for having excessive sex during their honeymoon in the Thai capital Bangkok.

The New Delhi-based victim has accused her husband Punit Bhardwaj of brutally raping and sodomising her.

Police have said initial medical examination of the victim has confirmed sodomy. The woman is now undergoing treatment.

"In her complaint, the victim said that her husband's behaviour during their honeymoon in Bangkok caused unbearable physical and mental torture to her. She also said that initially, they were supposed to go to the Maldives but her husband took her to Bangkok," said a police official, according to the Press Trust of India.

The woman has also alleged that her husband branded her skin with cigarettes and performed inhuman activities, India's Telegraph, quoting an officer, said.

"She said the accused used to sodomise her against her will and brand her body with cigarettes. Whenever she objected, he allegedly beat her up and threatened her with dire consequences.

"On some occasions during their honeymoon, the victim alleged, she was even forced to drink urine."

Bhardwaj, a project manager at a multinational firm, has been missing following the complaint and police have launched a manhunt. The woman too works in a private company.

India has been in the spotlight recently over issues of sexual assault and gender-related matters.

Many LGBT activists had cited incidents of marital rapes to criticise the latest verdict by the Supreme Court of India, which re-criminalised consensual homosexual encounters between adults.
