India: Sunny Leone most-watched PornHub star as Indians reveal staggering consumption of adult material

The US, Britain and India have grabbed the top three spots for countries with the most number of people watching porn. The data was compiled by PornHub, the world's largest adult website.

PornHub's annual review found that the top search terms in India included the word 'Indian', with Bollywood actor Sunny Leone featuring as the "top searched porn star". However, the beginning of the Muslim festival of Ramadan saw traffic decrease by 15% and the Hindu festival of Raksha Bandhan saw porn watching decrease by 10%.

In the UK, the term 'Indian' was the third most searched-for term on the porn website. The PornHub researchers have attributed this to the UK's sizeable Indian community in Britain, and pointed to research from Royal Holloway University that said people are attracted to those who look like them. The term "lesbian" was the most searched-for term on PornHub in 2015, proving equally popular among PornHub's female viewership. The second most searched-for term was "teen" and "stepmom", with "teen" a highlight among Indian visitors.

Psychologist and sex therapist, Dr Laurie Betito, said: "Research has shown that women are aroused by all kinds of sexual activity and imagery, whether they are gay or straight, while straight men are usually not aroused by gay porn and gay men generally not aroused by straight porn."

The US added 11 seconds to their average time spent watching porn, while those in India recorded a one-minute increase in their average time of 9mins 30secs watching porn. India's time makes them the fourth highest spending the most time on the website, with Philippines, the US, and Australia coming out on top. The world average length for a visit to the PornHub website was 9 minutes, 16 seconds.

Dr Betito said: "This indicates that most people are not 'addicted' in a way that they spend all of their time on porn, or doing little else with their time. Your average person only stays long enough to find what they like and masturbate to it."
