Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal reacted angrily to being told that the Red Devils have at this stage the same points as they did under David Moyes last season, following on from losing 1-0 at home to Southampton.

A goal from Serbian midfielder Dusan Tadic saw the Saints win at Old Trafford for the first time in 27 years, and inflict United with their first home defeat since the opening day of the 2014-15 season.

After being asked by a journalist in the post-match press conference if there has been any progress under his tenure, seeing as United have the same amount of points (37) after 21 games this year as they did last year, van Gaal reacted angrily by accusing the journalist of "waiting for the moment so you can put this question".

Southampton's in saw them leap-frog United to go third in the table, and leaves the Red Devils just a point ahead of fellow Champions League chasers Arsenal. Manchester United's next game is against Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.
