Redbridge shooting
The shooting in Redbridge occurred near a children's playground

An 11-year-old boy has been injured and a man is in critical condition following a shooting in east London. Police are appealing for information following reports of a shotgun being fired on 4:30pm on 8 August at Loxford Lane, Ilford, Redbridge.

A 22-year-old-man was taken to an east London hospital suffering from suspected gun wounds.

An 11-year-old boy, who was with his parents, also suffered injuries when he was struck in the cheek by a stray pellet.

He was taken to hospital to have the pellet removed and has since been discharged.

Police believe that the boy and the man are not known to each other and neither the child nor his parents are thought to be the intended victims.

No arrests have been made and there are no descriptions of any suspects at this time.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Moring, from the Met's Trident Gang Crime Command, said: "This shooting has left a man in a critical condition and endangered an innocent child.

"We would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to contact police immediately. Your call will be treated in complete confidence."

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous.
