A man is being treated in hospital after being shot by police who were called to a bomb scare at a house in Surrey.

Surrey Police and an armed response unit were called to an address in Knaphill in Woking following reports that a man was armed and was intending to harm himself and others.

Officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit also attended.

A police cordon was set up and local residents were evacuated but no explosive device was found.

A man in his 40s was shot by police at the scene before being taken to St George's Hospital in south London. It is not known how serious his injuries are.

Another man in his 30s was arrested and remains in police custody.

Officers discovered a firearm at the scene.

Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident

The shooting incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission
