Manchester United have reportedly been offered a chance to sign Atletico Madrid forward Mario Mandzukic this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, the Croatian international is set to leave the Spanish capital club this summer, and despite garnering interest from all across Europe, it is believed that he is keen to play in the Premier League.

Louis van Gaal is in the market for a forward, after seeing his team struggle to score goals last campaign. It was the second worst goal scoring performance by United in the Premier League era, with Wayne being the top scorer with just 14 goals.

The Red Devils have not taken up the option of making Radamel Falcao's loan a permanent deal after the Colombian managed just four goals during the entire campaign, and Robin van Persie's future remains uncertain at the club due to his struggle with form and fitness.

Mandzukic is a proven goal scorer and started brightly in the La Liga after joining Atletico to replace Chelsea bound Diego Costa. He did not disappoint and scored 20 goals in all competitions in his debut season.

However, the report claims that the last of his goals for the club came in February, with reports suggesting a fall out between the former Bayern Munich striker and the coaching staff at the club, which has resulted in the player looking for a summer move, as the club willing to let him leave.

United were interested in the forward, during his time in Germany, and are ready to reignite their interest in Mandzukic, who is also a target for domestic rivals Arsenal and Liverpool.

Apart from the English clubs, Bundesliga runners up Wolfsburg are also said to be interested in taking the 29-year-old forward back to Germany.
