Manchester United have reportedly made a surprise move for AC Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng, according to a report in the Daily Mail. Red Devils' boss Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to strengthen his midfield options in the summer, following his team's failure to secure a record 20th league title.

Although the 70 year old Scot is already close to landing Borussia Dortmund's Shinji Kagawa, he is believed to also want the 25 year old AC Milan man to give him more options in the centre of the park.

In addition, Ferguson, who failed to sign Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder from Inter Milan last summer, is also racing with rivals Manchester City and Chelsea to sign Ligue 1 club Lille's 21 year old attacking midfielder Eden Hazard.

As far as the rumoured bid for Boateng goes, the Italian club is still contemplating whether or not to offer the Ghanaian a new contract or sell him in order to raise funds to bid for Brazilian club Santos FC's talented 22 year old attacking midfielder Paulo Henrique Ganso.

Although the former Spurs man has been in good form this season, having scored nine times in 27 games for the Italians. However, his fitness is a cause for concern and injuries have meant he has missed quite a few games in the Serie A this season.

Meanwhile, AC Milan have confirmed Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato will not be going anywhere this summer. Goal.com quoted the Italian club's Chief Executive Adriano Galliani as stating the fact. The 22 year old striker's future at the San Siro had been hugely speculated on, with clubs including Corinthians and Paris Saint-Germain both keen on getting the Brazilian striker this summer. However, Galliani has officially confirmed Pato, who just recently recovered from a long-term injury, will be staying in Italy.

"Pato will stay at Milan. He will leave neither on a permanent deal, nor on loan," Galliani told Brazilian media outlet Lancenet, according to a Goal.com report.

Pato, who transferred from Internacional to AC Milan in 2007, has scored a total of 61 goals from 143 appearances for AC Milan till date.
