Where to Watch Live

Kick-off is set for 7:30pm BST. Live coverage of the match will be available on MUTV and MUTV HD.

Overview

Louis van Gaal will make his first appearance at Old Trafford in front of the Red Devils' home fans on Tuesday evening. After being announced as David Moyes' successor at United, the Dutchman will take in charge of his first game against the La Liga outfit.

The friendly fixture comes just days before the start of the first match of the 2014/15 season as United host Swansea City on Saturday, 16 August. United played in five pre-season fixtures in the US and they have won all five matches so far.

This includes a 3-1 win over their arch-rivals Liverpool in the final of the International Champions Cup in the US. Despite a first half lead from Steven Gerrard's penalty, van Gaal saw his men make a comeback in the second half to win the tie 3-1.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich is likely to include summer signings Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw their Old Trafford debut against Valencia. Van Gaal is yet to lose a game as United manager and the 63-year-old would be hoping to extend that run against the La Liga outfit

What Managers Say

Louis van Gaal: "I have to see for myself what these players are capable of before I can make any judgement – two weeks is too short to say. I know more now than I did when I first came to the club, but we could not train properly on tour. I cannot judge that because the squad I have inherited has not yet learned how to perform my philosophy."

Nuno Espirito Santo: "I don't hide [the fact] that we have the wish, the desire to be in the Champions League next year. I think it's possible because we are a big club. The position of Valencia is none other than fighting for [the] Champions League.
