Overview

Federer cruised into the fourth round of the Sony Open Tennis after defeating Thiemo de Bakker in the previous round. The former world number one needed one hour and three minutes to send the Dutchman out of the competition, 6-3, 6-3, in straight sets.

The 17-time Grand Slam winner has not dropped a single set in Miami and will be hoping to maintain his form when he faces Gasquet.

The Frenchman too is yet to lose a set in this competition and had managed to oust 17th seed, Kevin Anderson in the third round with a score, 6-3, 6-4, in just over 90 minutes.

Federer is among the four players who have lifted back-to-back titles in Miami having done so in 2005 and 2006; he will certainly be keen on adding this accolade for the third time in his career.

Should he progress into the next round, the fifth-ranked player will be up against the winner of David Ferrer and Kei Nishikori in the quarterfinals.

Head-To-Head

Federer conveniently holds an 11-2 lead against Gasquet in overall meetings between the two. In their last five meetings, Federer's record stands at 4-1.
