A deranged Illinois man who is alleged to have knifed his father to death was arrested naked while screaming "my name is God. I killed Satan", court documents show.

Police believe John William Shenko stabbed his father up to 100 times in their home in St. Charles Township, around 30 miles (48km) west of Chicago, on 13 August.

The 22-year-old is charged with first-degree murder of his father, Kevin Shenko, 60, who was found motionless outside his home.

Court documents filed in Kane County say that John Shenko was found naked and covered in blood close to the body of his father whilst repeatedly referring to himself as "God".

Officers say that John Shenko also urged officers to shoot him dead, according to the Chicago Tribune.

"I'm not getting off of him, you're going to have to shoot me," John Shenko told the deputy, according to the court documents. "My name is God. I killed Satan."

John Shenko, remains held on $2m (£1.56m) bail, has been ordered to take a psychological exam by a judge.

Assistant State's Attorney Joe Cullen said that police were sent to the address after reports of someone screaming for help.

On arrival John was seen straddling his father's body at one point, saying, "Die, die, die, die, die," Cullen affirmed. It was stated that the younger Shenko ignored pleas by officers and a Taser was used on him before he was cuffed.

The Tribune reported that Shenko's mother has told police her son had a "long history of mental illness" and had been treated for psychological issues three times in the past.

John has been diagnosed with autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), his mother said, and had also hidden knives beneath his mattress, threatened to stab himself and planned to kill one of his teachers.

"Due to the defendant's violent behavior, Ms. Shenko and her daughter shared a bedroom and would sleep with the door locked in fear of the defendant's behaviour," Cullen added.

John Shenko is due to appear in court on Friday (25 August).
