Harrison Ford spent a second night in hospital with a damaged ankle, and a Star Wars spokesman said they were hoping for "good news" about the stricken star.

Ford's wife - the Ally McBeal actress Calista Flockhart, is on her way from the USA to be at the 71-year-old's bedside, after he was airlifted to hospital.

An official for Lucasfilm - which has just started shooting Episode VII of the sci-fi franchise, told Sky News they were "hoping to announce some good news soon".

Police were called to the scene at Pinewood Studios after the veteran actor was involved in an incident with a garage door on Thursday.

He hurt his ankle and was air-lifted by helicopter to the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford.

Now he will be tended by Flockhart – who found fame with the TV legal comedy. She told the Telegraph she was coming to England to be with her husband.

Speaking in the aftermath of the on-set accident, a spokesman for Lucasfilm said: "Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII.

"He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care. Shooting will continue as planned while he recuperates."

Ford is reprising his role as Han Solo in the latest episode in the Star Wars franchise, episode VII. It is 37 years since he first played the mercenary in Star Wars Episode IV.
