Overview

The world No 1 remains on course to make it his fifth US Open final in as many years and will come into this match in confident mood following his four-set victory over long time rival Andy Murray. It was the first time the Serbian was really pushed in this tournament, and he will be glad he came out of the battle on top. The Serbian is appearing in his eighth consecutive semi-final at Flushing Meadows.

Meanwhile, his opponent, Japan No 1 Kei Nishikori is appearing in his first Grand Slam semi-final and is the first Japanese player to make it to a Grand Slam semi-final since Jiri Satoh made the Wimbledon last four in 1933.

The number 10 seed will come into this match with no fear after beating Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka in a grueling five-set match.

The last time Nishikori faced Djokovic was in 2011, and the Japanese player came out on top, but on current form the Sebian should be the favourite to reach the final. However, Nishikori will not make it easy for the World No 1and will push him all the way.

The winners of this match will come up against either Roger Federer or Marin Cilic, who will contest the other semi-final just after the match between Djokovic and Nishikori.
