Filming is underway for the season 3 of Orange is the New Black, the popular prison comedy-drama that has won much critical acclaim. The third season of will see a lot of management changes in the prison.
After Fig (Alysia Reiner) stepped down from her role as assistant warden due to misuse charges, she was replaced by Joe Caputo (Nick Sandow). Reports claimed that Caputo will make changes in the prison next season.
In an interview with Vulture, Sandow dished details about his character and changes he will make to the women's prison.
Sandow told Vulture: "How do I think he's going to run it differently? It's a good question. I don't think Caputo really knows. I don't think he's the kind of guy that has any plan. I don't think he's the kind of guy that has absolutely anything up his sleeve. On the first and second day of his new job, he's just trying to keep his head above water. Do I think that he'll go about it without embezzling and these other things? Yeah, I think that he's got a sense of wanting to do the right thing."
Sandow said that it is difficult for his character Caputo to do the right thing because of deep-seated issues with the prison system. "There will be many compromises along the way and it will be difficult for Caputo to challenge the systems foundation," he noted.
Nick Sandow (Joe Caputo) and Selenis Leyva (Gloria Mendoza) have been promoted to regulars for the third season. Also, a new male actor is joining the show.
A report by Hollywood Reporter confirmed that comedian Mike Birbiglia, who played Patrick in the film The Fault in Our Stars, will be part of the cast.
Lori Petty who played Lolly in season two, an inmate that befriended Piper on their way to the Chicago prison, is set to join the cast. Petty only appeared in a few brief scenes during season two, but is set to reprise her role for Season 3, reported Entertainment Weekly.
While no official date has been announced, season 3 of Orange is the New Black is set to premiere mid-2015.
