Porn star Ron Jeremy is fighting for his life in hospital after suffering an aneurysm near his heart at his Los Angeles home on Wednesday.

The actor, who has appeared in over 2,000 adult films, has undergone emergency surgery following the attack. Manager Mike Esterman said the operation "went smoothly."

"He just felt chest pains, like a very heavy weight," Esterman added. "He is being worked on for an aneurysm near his heart."

It is understood that Jeremy managed to drive himself to Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre for treatment.

A message on the 59-year-old's official Twitter account read: "Please keep Ron in your thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery."

Jeremy's adult filmography includes titles such as High Heels, Low Standards, The Haunted Trailer and Sexy and I Know It. He is in the Guinness Book of World Records for most appearances in porn films.

Nicknamed 'the hedgehog' due to his squat build and moustache, Jeremy crossed over into mainstream acting from adult entertainment after starring in reality series 'The Surreal Life'.

His autobiography 'The Hardest (Working) man in Showbiz' was published in 2007.
