Actor and comedian Robin Williams was found dead today at the age of 63.

Star of a plethora of classics, from Jumanji and Mrs Doubtfire to Dead Poet's Society and Good Will Hunting, he was an actor who proved he could take things seriously as well as deliver a steady stream of laughs when required.

Below we've collected ten choice quotes from the actor, said in front of the cameras and behind them.

RIP Robin Williams.

1) "Comedy is acting out optimism."

2) "Canada is like a loft apartment over a really great party."

3) "I started doing comedy because that was the only stage that I could find. It was the pure idea of being on stage. That was the only thing that interested me, along with learning the craft and working, and just being in productions with people."

4) "When in doubt, go for the dick joke."

5) "No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world." (Dead Poet's Society)

6) "But only in their dreams can men be truly free. It was always thus and always thus will be" (Dead Poet's Society)

7) "What's right is what's left if you do everything else wrong."

8) "There is still a lot to learn and there is always great stuff out there. Even mistakes can be wonderful."

9) "Reality: what a concept!"

10) "You're only given one little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it."
