Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is Barcelona´s main target for the summer market and they are keen to make an approach for the Argentinian in the near future to secure his services, according to reports in one of Catalonia's most popular newspapers.

Barcelona have lost their last two games, against Ajax and Athletic Bilbao, and there are already some pundits who suggest the team is short of a top striker - especially after David Villa was sold to Atletico Madrid last summer.

Catalonian newspaper Sport reports manager Gerardo Martino has already told his club that the squad needs a striker and Aguero is his favourite to partner Lionel Messi and Neymar.

Sport claims that Agüero is also willing to join Barcelona and is set to talk to Manchester City representatives to make the negotiations easier. Indeed, he has already spoken to manager Manuel Pelegrini to express his desire to leave City and go back to La Liga.

Aguero moved to Manchester City three seasons ago, after they paid around £45m to Atletico Madrid, and is currently enjoying his best spell since arriving in England. He is the joint-top scorer in Premier League, with 10 goals, and he has also scored six in the Champions League.

However, reports in Spain claim he is not happy in Manchester because he misses Spain. Furthermore, it is well known that Aguero is a close friend of his compatriot Messi, who would love to recreate the partnership they enjoy with Argentina at club level.

Nevertheless, there are some problems that Barcelona will have to face if they want to secure Agüero´s services next summer. Given his recent form, it appears unlikely that Manchester City will consider selling one of their best players for less than £50m. Furthermore Real Madrid are also monitoring his situation, having tried to sign him last summer.
