Even the highest court in the UK has turned tech-savvy - the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom has launched its very own Twitter account. The account - @UKSupremeCourt - will be managed by the Court's communications team.

The Washington Post quoted Ben Wilson, the court spokesman, as saying the account was launched to provide real-time news updates on the legal body's latest judgments.

"From producing summaries of judgments to streaming proceedings live online, taking to Twitter is another step to opening the doors of the highest court in the land to as many people as possible," he added.

Moreover, he stated the court was eager to get the service up and running before Justices prepare their judgment in the extradition appeal of WikiLeaks' founder Julian Assange... easily one of the most high-profile cases the court has heard since its opening in 2009.

"The court understands it is the first Supreme Court in the world to do so," a spokesman was quoted in The Telegraph.
