Three people have been killed in a suspect shooting incident near a school in Switzerland.

Bern cantonal police confirmed the deaths after authorities rushed to the scene in the Alpine village of Wilderswil, near the popular tourist resort of Interlaken.

Police spokeswoman Ramona Mock said detectives found three bodies near the railway station but didn't immediately release any further detail.

Local paper BernerZeitung said the deaths occurred during a shooting near a local school and the station at between 0700 and 0730 CET in the morning.

Police have cordoned off the area.

Witnesses told local media that one of the bodies was found inside a car in a parking lot, while the other two were lying on the ground nearby, The Local reported.

The victims were said to be a woman and two men.
