A murder investigation is under way following the death of a 13-year-old girl who was seriously assaulted in Doncaster.

Emergency services were called to Elmfield Park after the girl, who cannot be named, called them herself after she was attacked.

Police and paramedics treated her at the scene before she was transferred to the Doncaster Royal Infirmary, where she died.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed a murder investigation has been launched.

A 26-year-old woman has been arrested and remains in police custody.
