Super-rich Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala are planning a "stunning double swoop" for Liverpool's Steven Gerrard and Chelsea's Frank Lampard, according to the Metro.

Anzhi already have Roberto Carlos and Samuel Eto'o and Suleyman Kerimov, Anzhi's billionaire owner, is keen to add more big names to a squad that would have been unplayable in 2005.

The Russian side are prepared to hand them both two-year contracts worth £13m a season.

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas wants Everton teenager Ross Barkley but will have to stump up almost £20m for the 18-year-old midfielder.

With Luka Modric not going anywhere and Cesc Fabregas settled at Barcelona the red-tops need a new interminable transfer saga to keep us occupied until January: step forward Neymar. The Santos striker is set to become the fourth most expensive player of all time after Real Madrid agreed a £53m fee for the Brazil international.

But the 19-year-old has refuted claims he is set to leave next summer, saying he intends to see out his Santos contract which runs until 2012.

"I have been sold like 30 times," Neymar told Lancenet. "There is no truth to that, I am a player of Santos and I will stay here to play at the club's centenary. That is all speculation, there is no deal. I went to the hospital to solve a personal problem," he added.

Man City boss Roberto Mancini hasn't given up on signing Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi and is lining up an £8m bid in January. "De Rossi would be absolutely perfect. I rate him one of the best midfielders in the world," Mancini said at some point over the summer.

Liverpool have "entered the race" to sign Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen. The 24-year-old has also been linked with Inter Milan and Arsenal.

Finally, Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra has "ruled out" a move to the Premier League in January, saying he intends to see out his contract at the Bernabeu until 2013.

"I have a contract with Madrid until 2013 and would like to fulfil the commitment.

"Right now I only care about Madrid and our success. I am a player of Madrid. I will stay here until I finish my contract. My goal is to earn a place in the starting line-up and I'm working hard on it.

"When I finish my contract then I will consider other options. I know what I can [do] and I believe deeply that I can be an important player in the first team."
