A 46 year old man arrested in the in connection with missing five year old April Jones.

In a short statement, Det Supt Reg Bevan of the Dyfed-Powys police said:

"Within the last hour we have arrested a 46-year-old man from the Machynlleth area who has been detained at Aberystwyth Police Station.

"We made the arrest just outside Machynlleth and we're hopeful that the individual will assist in locating April who is still missing."

He added that:

"We're still pursuing all lines of inquiry with the view that April is still alive and will continue to do so until we find her."

According to reports from another child, April was playing with friends near her home at about 7pm last night before 'willingly' got into a light coloured van that drove off.

Police praised what they said was a 'tremendous response' by the community after hundreds of volunteers in the local area joined up with emergency services to search for the child.

April was wearing a purple coat with a fur hood, a white polo top and black trousers and police are urging anyone who knows anything to call them on a dedicated hotline 0300 2000 333
