The 70th birthday celebration of Bollywood's legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan was no less than a red carpet event at which almost all prominent actors, actresses, directors and composers of the Indian film fraternity turned up in full attendance.

Amitabh Bachchan, who turned 70 on 11 October, received the celebrity guests. With him were his family members including wife and former actress Jaya Bachchan, son Abhishek Bachchan, daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and daughter and son-in-law Shweta and Nikhil Nanda.

The A-listers at Bachchan's birthday bash included veteran actor Dilip Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit Nene. Amitabh Bachchan apart, Aishwarya Rai, the former Miss World dubbed as one of the most beautiful women, was undoubtedly another head-turner at the party. Dressed in a traditional cream and golden ensemble, Aishwarya looked stunningly beautiful and much out of post-baby extra kilos, for which she was highly criticised. She gave birth to her first child, a daughter, Aaradhya, with Abhishek Bachchan in November last year.

Amitabh Bachchan, popularly called Big B, took to the social media to thank his fans and friends on his birthday.

"I come to express my grateful thanks to all that have wished me, and merely say this ...Without you my life would have been incomplete ...The blessings of the Almighty, the affection and care and upbringing of my parents and my family, and the deep love of my well wishers has kept me alive ...," Bachchan, who carried the Olympic Torch during a relay leg between the City of London and the borough of Southwark before the start of the 2012 London Olympic Games, wrote on his official Facebook page.

"I am whatever I am today because of all the above ... it has been so from the beginning, it shall remain so till the end ..," the actor in the Leonardo DiCaprio-starring Hollywood film The Great Gatsby next year, added.

Son of a noted Hindi poet and writer, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan is still active in his acting career and is one of the most endearing actors of all time. Since 2000, he has also been hosting the television game show, Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), which is the Indian version of the UK's Who Wants to Be a Millionaire - The Power of Knowledge show.

Bollywood actors who attended Big B's party were overwhelmed by the actor's and his family's warmth.

"Had an amazing time at Amitji's (Amitabh Bachchan) party. Was a re-union of sorts. Got to spend time with so many of my friends! It was great seeing everyone!" Madhuri Dixit tweeted.

"Danced wıth amıtjı & jaya aunty to all the songs ı have grown up lıstenıng. Too much fun. Thanx abhıshek,aıshwarya & aaradhya for the warmth," tweeted Shah Rukh Khan.
