Motorola Droid Turbo
Motorola Droid Turbo expected to get Android 5.1 from 10 June Motorola

Motorola's Droid Turbo smartphones now have an official Android 5.1 OS update release date, thus putting to rest months of speculation about the seeding of Google's more recent firmware upgrade.

According to an iDigitialTimes report, that quotes an official tweet by Android Police's editor David Ruddock, Motorola's Droid Turbo handsets in the US, will receive OTA notifications representing Android 5.1, beginning from 10 June 2015.

Droid Turbo users can check for Android 5.1 firmware bearing build number 23.11.23.

The above development is in line with Motorola's earlier confirmation about Droid Turbo (currently running Android KitKat) directly receiving Android 5.1, bypassing the Android 5.0 (Lollipop) OS update.

Specifically, Verizon-driven Droid Turbos were confirmed to skip Android 5.0, and directly go for Android 5.1.

Motorola had also stated that the Android 5.1, released directly, will not essentially be free from inherent bugs/issues.

"It's nearly impossible to make it bug free", Motorola's engineer Luciano Carvalho was quoted as saying in an official statement in March this year.

Motorola Droid Turbo users can check their smartphones, beginning 10 June, for Android 5.1 OS update.

Enhancements offered by Android 5.1

Since Motorola Droid Turbo users on Verizon will receive Android 5.1 by bypassing Android 5.0, these users can expect all enhancements present in Android 5.0 after they install the Android 5.1 OS update.

Enhancements brought along by Android 5.0:

Motorola Droid Turbo users will notice a brand new Material Design UI and improved lockscreen notifications, after updating to the Android 5.0 OS.

Besides a new Recent Apps menu, the update brings along the Android ART runtime, which launches applications much faster.

Users will also notice a new Quick Settings menu and a new battery saver mode, which has been implemented as a result of Google's project Volta.

The new improved battery saver claims to automatically adjust the brightness of display and limits updates occurring in the background, leading to the overall battery life being enhanced by several notches.

Apart from the above newer aspects, Android 5.1 also incorporates fixes to multiple known issues inherent in Android 5.0. Click here to know a list of issues that Android 5.1 addresses.
