Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has revealed that he and teammate Mesut Ozil have spoken to Sami Khedira regarding joining the Gunners in the future.

The Real Madrid midfielder has constantly been linked with a move to the Premier League and more specifically to the Emirates Stadium in recent months, as he is on the final year of his contract with the Spanish capital club and is yet to agree a new deal.

Apart from Arsenal, he has also been linked with Chelsea and Manchester United, but Khedira recently ruled a move to England during the January transfer window.

But Mertesacker, who was Khedira's teammate during Germany's victorious World Cup campaign earlier in the summer, has revealed that the two Arsenal players have spoken to him regarding joining the north London club following the expiry of his contract next summer.

"I'm up for more quality Germans to [join] the club," Mertesacker said, as quoted by Goal.

"Ozil and I spoke with Khedira a few times to join Arsenal. His contract is up next summer," the former German international added.

Meanwhile, there were reports this week that suggested that Khedira had already signed a pre-contract agreement with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich for next season.

But Bayern's media director Markus Horwick has rubbished the report and claimed that there is no truth in the story regarding the German's move back to his homeland.

"There is absolutely nothing in this story," Horwick said.

Moreover, Real manager Carlo Ancelotti is also adamant that the midfielder is not going anywhere and at his Thursday press conference reiterated the club's intention to renew his contract before the end of the campaign.

"The situation is clear: we want him to renew his contract. He is a professional and absolutely loyal [to the club]," the Italian manager remarked.
