Arsenal are looking to beat arch rivals Tottenham with a revised offer for Southampton star Morgan Schneiderlin.

According to the Express, Arsenal are still keen on signing the French midfielder and will make another approach, much to the dismay of the Tottenham fans who thought their club was the front-runner in the race for Schneiderlin's signature.

Arsene Wenger is a keen admirer of Schneiderlin and had been even linked with a move for his compatriot earlier in the summer transfer window.

It was rumoured that Tottenham were leading the race, with the close relationship between Mauricio Pochettino and Schneiderlin being a factor in the White Hart Lane club being closer to landing the player than their rivals.

However, with the Gunners reigniting their interest in the player, it will be difficult for Spurs to beat their north London rivals, as the player has spoken of his wish to play in the Champions League, which only one of them can provide this season.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been a key member of the Saints team that finished eighth in the league. His club form also saw him earn a surprise call-up to the French World Cup squad.

If Schneiderlin were to leave St Mary's this summer, he will be the fourth player to move to a big club in the Premier League. He has already seen Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw depart for pastures new, and is hoping to jump ships and play at a higher level.

Arsenal have been linked to a host of midfielders during the summer transfer window, and if reports are to be believed, the Gunners have supposedly agreed a contract to sign Sami Khedira from Real Madrid.
