Arsene Wenger

Arsenal are planning a major splurge in the summer with Arsene Wenger keen to bring in a right-back, a central midfielder and a striker to propel their title chase next season, according to the Daily Mail.

The Gunners were in the market for a midfielder in January but failed in their attempts to sign Julian Draxler and had to settle for a loan deal with Spartak Moscow for Swedish international, Kim Kallstrom.

However, the move backfired as it was revealed that the player had suffered a micro-fracture in his back while playing beach football two days back in Abu Dhabi and will be out till the end of February or early March.

Wenger is confident that a similar fate will not befall them in the summer with the Gunners currently in a position to match the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea owing to their new commercial deals which will come into effect after the end of the season.

The Frenchman has earmarked Borussia Dortmund right-back Lukasz Piszczek as a possible target while they are also looking to tie up Bacary Sagna to a long-term deal.

The Gunners are sure to move in for a striker with Edin Dzeko, Diego Costa and Mario Mandzukic in their sights to support Olivier Giroud, who is currently their soul option up front ahead of Nicklas Bendtner.

The striker has done very well this season, scoring 10 goals and assisting five in the league and has been central to their performance with his hold up play this season.

The Gunners are also likely to move back in for Draxler whom they failed to sign in January. Schalke's chairman Clemens Tonnies, however, revealed that the 20-year-old is planning to stay at the club for at least two more years and make a move after he has fulfilled his potential with the Bundesliga club.

Wenger is unlikely to wait for the player to reach his level and make a move in the summer to bring him to the Emirates and mould him into the player he believes will make them a force to reckon with in the future.
