Arsenal Pave Way for Tottenham To Pursue Spanish Forward – Report

Tottenham have the chance to take advantage of Arsenal's lack of contact with Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata with Andre Villas-Boas reportedly considering making a move for the Spaniard.

Arsene Wenger categorically denied that the Gunners were in contact with Madrid over a possible loan deal for Morata, who has featured for the Spanish giants 12 times this season.

"There is no truth in that," the Arsenal manager claimed when questioned on such reports, and now Talksport are reporting that Tottenham could come back in for the striker they attempted to land in the summer as part of the deal for Gareth Bale.

While Morata would surely have a preference for a side challenging for trophies and playing Champions League football, should Tottenham be willing to offer increased game time he might be tempted into a move as a last-ditch effort to be selected for La Roja's 2014 World Cup squad.

At 21 years of age Morata is showing much promise but is finding it hard to break into Madrid's starting XI and Spurs are reportedly also willing to consider a loan offer if Carlo Ancelotti refuses to sell on a permanent basis.

Both Arsenal and Tottenham have had weaknesses within their forward options this season, with the Gunners hampered by limited support for Olivier Giroud while their rivals have scored just 11 goals so far in the current campaign.

While Spurs brought in Spain international Roberto Soldado in the summer the striker is yet to set the Premier League, scoring three out of four of his league goals from the penalty spot.

If Wenger is in fact telling the truth about not being in contact with Madrid over Morata then Andre Villas-Boas will have a chance to pounce as the manager looks to prove his critics wrong and guide Tottenham into Champions League qualification once more.
