Maximilian Arnold
Arnold has scored six goals this season.

Wolfsburg midfielder Maximilian Arnold's agent has torched Arsenal's reported interest in his services by declaring the Germany Under-21 international content with life in his homeland.

The 19 year old has been linked with moves to Juventus and the Gunners after a rapid rise with Wolfsburg which has culminated in a run of six goals in 14 appearances this season.

However, despite interest from Arsenal and Juve agent Karl Herzog is adamant his client is happy to remain in the Bundesliga and continue his development.

"Max is with Wolfsburg and he is doing fine," his representative said. "He definitely enjoys all the qualities of the club and they know all of his qualities."

Such has been the impressive nature of Arnold's rise to stardom with Wolfsburg, he has already attracted comparisons with Mesut Ozil, who became Arsenal's record signing last summer.

With fellow Germans Per Mertesacker, Serge Gnabry and Lukas Podolski also in the Arsenal squad, and Arnold on the verge of a full international cap the youngster could yet be tempted to north London.

Arsenal have made no secret of both their desire to add new faces to their squad this summer and their ability to do it after announcing they have £120m worth of cash reserves, with manager Arsene Wenger given the license to spend this summer.

"Whilst youth development continues to be an important focus, we fully recognise the importance of getting the balance right between youth and experience," the chairman's statement read. "As you well know, we signed Mesut Özil for a Club record transfer fee in the summer and, in addition, the signing of Mathieu Flamini has proved to be an astute acquisition.

"We have also continued to invest in the squad by retaining some of our key players. We expect to be able to confirm, in the near future, that a number of our senior players have signed extended contracts. This is important for the stability of the squad.

"We will continue to work hard to keep the players Arsène believes can take us forwards. We will also continue to support the manager in the transfer market when he identifies players he believes can further strengthen the squad.

The club have been heavily linked with repeating the marquee-like addition of Ozil in the off-season however Wenger often prefers to sign young players whom he can shape future teams around.
