Just a few days back, pod2g announced on Twitter that he managed to successfully jailbreak his iPhone 4 untethered on iOS 5.1. In a fast twist of events in the world of jailbreaks, we may recall that the veteran hacker i0n1c had earlier tweeted to the world of jailbreakers that he had jailbroken the new third-gen iPad running iOS 5.1.1 in a leaked photo.

The latest update from the renowned iOS security researcher - pod2g - reveals to the world over Twitter that he has successfully jailbroken the new iPad running on iOS 5.1 untethered. The veteran hacker further explains that his next step is "stabilising the payload", which will be followed by his attempt at jailbreaking the new iPad on the latest iOS firmware - 5.1.1. If the payload method is successful, we could expect a public release of the iOS 5.1 jailbreak for all A5 and A5X devices including the iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and the new iPad very soon.

With Apple constantly patching the firmware and changing the architecture of the chips in their latest iOS devices, the worldwide community of hackers are having a hard time jailbreaking them. Despite the challenges of unearthing new exploits with every new software update from Apple, pod2g and his Dream Team of hackers have made rapid progress in finding all the exploits necessary for a successful jailbreak even on the latest iOS verion - 5.1.1.

Meanwhile, pod2g clarifies that since his jailbreak works on iPhone 4 and iPad 3, it should work fine on other iOS 5.1 devices like iPhone 4S and iPad 2. But, it may not work with Apple TV3.
