An updated version of the Queen's waxwork has been unveiled at Madame Tussauds following a £150,000 makeover.

The realistic statue, which will be the monarch's 23rd waxwork, was revealed ahead of the diamond jubilee celebrations next month.

Created by artists from a recent portrait of the Queen, the lifelike waxwork shows her majesty in a sumptuous gown with full regalia.

According to reports, great attention was paid to every detail of her hair, makeup and even wrinkles, with some suggesting that the model now has more wrinkles than the monarch.

A spokeswoman from the world-famous waxwork museum said: "This is a warmer, softer Queen. The last time we made a model of the Queen was in 2001, so this is a new version and she's slightly older."

The waxwork has gone on display in the royal room alongside models of the Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Harry and the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.
