Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a move for Athletic Bilbao forward Fernando Llorente, according to The Sun.

The 27-year-old's contract with the Basque outfit expires next summer and the Spain international had informed the club that he will not be signing a new deal and wants to take part in a different competition, with more possibilities of success.

Bilbao president Jose Urrutia insists that Llorente will not leave the club this season, unless the club activates his £30m release clause. However, the report says that the Spurs are hopeful of reaching an agreement with Bilbao for a fee around £20m. The La Liga side are aware that they might not be able to play hardball anymore as the player will become a free agent next year.

Llorente scored 29 goals from 53 appearances in all competitions for Bilabao last season as he guided the club to the Europa League final and was also part of the Spain squad that triumphed at Euro 2012.

M'Vila wants Champions League football

Meanwhile, Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila will leave only for a club that has Champions League football under their belts, according to BBC Sport journalist David Ornstein.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a host of top European clubs this summer, most recently to Tottenham. There were reports that Andre Villas-Boas' side even submitted a €15m (£11.8m) bid for the France international.

Spurs had finished fourth in the Premier League last season. But the north London side missed out on Champions League qualification, as sixth-placed Chelsea won the competition last year and took Tottenham's spot. And, according to Ornstein, M'Vila will only move to a club that can offer him Europe's top-tier competition.

"Spoken to M'Vila camp, who say he'd only leave Rennes for a club in Champions League & currently no interest from CL clubs in England #thfc," Ornstein tweeted.

Tottenham's derby rivals Arsenal, who have a Champions League berth, had an initial interest in M'Vila but manager Arsene Wenger recently revealed that he was no longer in pursuit of the centre midfielder.
