Jeremy Forrest's lawyer has revealed that the fugitive teacher could return to Britain "at any moment" after a French court granted his extradition to Britain on charges of abducting 15-year-old schoolgirl Megan Stammers.

Forrest, who taught Megan at Bishop Bell School, has remained in custody since being arrested by French police on September 28, after being discovered with his pupil in the south western city of Bordeaux.

The married 30-year-old maths teacher was not in court for the extradition ruling. His lawyers say the "full story" of his elopement with Megan will only be told once he has been deported.

Forrest and Megan vanished on September 20, taking a ferry from Eastbourne to France. A huge manhunt was launched and a European Arrest Warrant issued for Forrest's capture.

Forrest's parents even went on television, pleading with their son to get in touch.

Following her discovery in Bordeaux, Megan returned to the UK on a special flight on the evening of 29 September.

Forrest's lawyer, Phil Smith said: "Naturally, Jeremy is most concerned about the impact of this episode on all those affected.

"He will be making no further comment whilst the judicial process takes place and is co-operating with the authorities."
