Overview

Newcastle will look to build on momentum from the home draw against Belgian side Club Brugge in a midweek Europa League game. The visitors, under interim coach Philippe Clement, raced into a two-goal lead but were pegged back after summer signing Vurnon Anita and Shola Ameobi struck within the space of two minutes each, to secure a draw, a point and a confirmed spot in the tournament's knock-out stages. In the league, Newcastle fought Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at Anfield last weekend but have had a patchy run of form otherwise. The Magpies have only won once in the last five league games.

Those results mean Alan Pardew's side are actually below the Hammers in the league table, with the newly-promoted club in ninth with 15 points, and one ahead of Newcastle.

The Hammers are enjoying a fantastic return to the Premier League and have the vast experience of manager Sam Allardyce to thank for that; the former Bolton manager has made some shrewd summer buys and none, perhaps, shrewder than the deadline day loan signing of Liverpool forward Andy Carroll. The tall England international may not have scored a league goal for his new club as yet but his movement and aerial ability have come in very handy.

West Ham's last game was a hugely creditable 0-0 home draw against champions Manchester City and the club have lost only twice in their last five matches (one of which was to Arsenal).

Team News

Newcastle: The hosts will be without captain Fabricio Coloccini. The centre back serves a suspension for a red card in the game against Liverpool. Meanwhile, James Perch is unlikely to play this game after a knock in that same game. This means utility man Anita will likely move into midfield and Danny Simpson will slot into right back.

Mike Williamson will probably replace Coloccini in central defence and Senegal forward Demba Ba looks to be ready to retake his striker's slot. Midfielder ChiekhTiote continues to be suspended.

Probable Line-Up: Krul; Simpson, S Taylor, Williamson, Santon; Ben Arfa, Anita, Cabaye, Guttierez; Ba, Cisse

West Ham: Allardyce has no real injury issues to address and is expected to field the same squad that kept City to a goalless draw at Upton Park. The good news is the Hammers will be boosted by the return of Guy Demel and Alou Diarra, both of whom are expected to make the bench. Ricardo Vaz Te (dislocated shoulder) and Jack Collison (knee) remain long-term absentees.

Probable Line-Up: Jaaskelainen; O'Brien, McCartney, Collins, Reid; Noble, Diame; Benayoun, Nolan, Jarvis; Carroll
