Use CF-Auto-Root to root official Android 4.0.4 ICS as well as Android 4.1.1/4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware

Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P5113 recently received the latest Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean official firmware, following the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P5100 and P5110. This article presents a step-by-step guide to root Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P5113 on any official Android 4.0.4 or Android 4.1.1/ 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware. The rooting method described in this guide works with ODIN flash tool, and does not require the installation of ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) on the Galaxy tablet.

CF-Auto-Root is the rooting method used in this guide, which helps preserve your stock firmware settings even after the root. This root method is exclusively used with Samsung's stock firmware or official firmware and is reportedly the quickest and easiest way to root. Hence, it is an ideal rooting tool for beginners.

NOTE: Rooting the device will increase its flash counter and hence void its warranty. Just reinstall any official firmware to regain hardware warranty on the device. Alternatively, run Triangle Away app after rooting, to reset the flash counter and restore device warranty.

Pre-requisites

  • Verify that correct USB drivers are installed for Galaxy Tab 2 on the computer. Download Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P5113 USB drivers.
  • Create backup for important data and settings on the tablet using any of the custom recovery tools such as CWM or TWRP recovery. Avoid using either Samsung KIES or ROM manager for data-backup as it may permanently damage or brick the device.
  • Enable USB Debugging mode on the tablet by navigating to Settings > Developer Options (if device is running Android 4.0 or later) or go to Settings > Applications > Development (if device is running Android 2.3 or earlier).
  • Ensure that the tablet's battery has at least 85 percent charge
